Cigarette Smoking & Plain Packaging
The tobacco industry argues that there is no evidence that plain packaging will reduce tobacco use..... so then hopefully you'll support the government to implement plain packaging.
Water
"Try to drink about 6-8 glasses of water (or other fluids) a day to prevent dehydration" says the NHS Choices website.
One of the biggest misconceptions currently is that we need to drink a certain amount of fluids or we'll get dehydrated - there is no physiological basis for this statement. Before we were told to do this, were there masses of people admitted to hospital with dehydration secondary to, well, nothing except not drinking? NO!
All the current information regarding water intake is promulgated by companies such as Danone "We don't drink enough water" - thanks for caring... oh, you make Evian, how coincidental!
According to Professor Stanley Goldfarb, nephrologist at the University of Pennsylvania, in the US "gallon for gallon, bottled water is more expensive than oil".

A New Way To Shop
Big department store in town is feeling the economic pinch - solution:

Corridor Walking
Yesterday I was walking down a corridor at work and noticed a woman ahead of me walking with her shoulder up against the wall - was she trying to take up as little space as possible? was she daydreaming?
Then I started thinking about corridor walking etiquette. The general idea is to stick to the left (in Australia and UK), so it's very annoying when people stride up to you in the opposite direction.
Also annoying are the groups that spread themselves out across the corridor preventing passage.
And... what's the etiquette when the corridor is narrow and two people are approaching you? I usually go between them.

Ipecac: As Lovable as Gastric Lavage
"Ipecac-Induced Emesis and Gastric Lavage are Equally Unpleasant," D. Tandberg and D.A. Wood,
It has been widely held that gastric lavage is more unpleasant than ipecac-induced emesis. In fact, patients are occasionally threatened with large rubber tubes in order to persuade them to drink ipecac. To confirm that this assumption exists, we asked 41 emergency physicians and nurses who had never personally undergone either procedure to estimate the discomfort of each using a 10 cm unsegmented visual analog scale. This "naive" group thought that gastric lavage would be significantly more unpleasant than ipecac-induced emesis. Using the same methods, we asked 16 health professionals who had undergone both procedures as part of another study to score the recalled unpleasantness of each procedure....
